The saithe or the pollock as it is also called is of the cod family. Saithe has dark blue and black back, pale belly and a light line down the side. It differs from the cod by having no beard thread. Saithe is not subject to protected seasons, but there is a minimum legal size of 30 cm in the inner waters and in the North Sea at least 35 cm. Saithe is typically caught during the summer months.
